New England Patriots Second-Half Sputter Results in 24-21 Loss to Buffalo Bills in Week 16

For one half of football, the New England Patriots looked like a team that had arrived in Western New York with an intent to upset the best team in the NFL. As for the other half, it remains clear there’s still some work to be done in Foxborough. Unlike their lackluster effort last week against the Arizona Cardinals, the Patriots scored on each of their first two possessions of their Week 16 matchup against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium. Pats rookie quarterback Drake Maye threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to receiver Kayshon Boutte, which was followed by running back Rhamondre Stevenson scoring on a 14-yard touchdown run. Unfortunately, New England turned the ball over on each of its first three possessions of the second half. Bills quarterback Josh Allen and running back James Cook began to heat up and the Bills rode 17 second-half points into a 24-21 victory, dropping the Pats to 3-12 on the season. Despite the loss, New England showed a lot of heart in this game. They did not quit, even into the second half when things started to unravel. However, fundamental mistakes continue to haunt this team and a major offseason focus must be placed on better coaching and execution by the players for the Pats to show notable improvement in 2025. #nfl #newenglandpatriots
